Just Kids
03:59
|
|||
I wanna die and find some meaning in my death
I wanna get high on your every breath
I wanna lay my heavy head on your chest
The way I did when we were just kids
I wanna taste your blood on my lips
I wanna know the ways through your every defense
Wanna walk through your gate I don't wanna jump your fence
Just like the days when we were just kids
I wanna run through the dark til it's time to come in
I wanna break your heart but be there when it mends
I wanna play the part I don't wanna pretend
The way we did when we were just kids
I want you to cry when the story ends
I want the villain to die I want the hero to live
And when it comes time I want you to come with
The way you did when I was just a kid

Trail of Another One
04:00
|
|||
So you hopped in the front seat
Said "Take me for a spin"
From the very beginning
You held my heart in your hands
Under a soft summer's rain
You placed your lily hand in mine
Took me down to the river
Where we rid ourselves of time
All the leaves were gone
As I left come the dawn
Now I'm on the trail of another one
There was a song come on the radio
I'll remember it all my life
From the verse to the refrain
It'll stand the test of time
Just some soft summer fling
You washed clean off of your hands
Cus from the very beginning
You knew it'd come to an end
All the leaves were gone
As I left come the dawn
Now I'm on the trail of another one
Now I'm stuck somewhere in the middle
Can't get you off my mind
But I'll keep the engine runnin'
Til' I'm all outta time
Til' I'm all outta time
Til' I'm all outta time
Til' I'm all outta time
Til' I'm all outta time…

52
04:20
|
|||
So we're driving down 52
Ain't got a whole lot to do
Except get to where we're going to
And it seems too good to be true
I got a real good feeling 'bout you
So we're driving down 52
And my eyes can't stay off of you
As it all disappears in the rearview
And up ahead it's all brand new
I got a real good feeling 'bout you
So we're driving down 52
And when we get to where we're going to
You tell me we're just strangers passing through
You get a real good feeling from me
And I get a real good feeling from you

Bright Leaves
05:04
|
|||
In the buckle of the Bible Belt
Where your voice gets lost on the wind
She was standing there in a field of white flowers
With a tattoo of blood on her hand
When a boy come along they had a little one
And her parents said it was a sin
Then one sad day in the South of the South
She was wed to him
Now they're singing their song down in the hollers
They're singing their song just for me
And their voices they sound like angels
Though they always sing off key
Always sing off key
Always knew how to hold her tongue
They teach ya that when you're young
See the serpent always follows ya, nipping at your heels
From the very day that you're born
Now, stretched out across the canvas
Paints pictures of what she sees
Pretty words she puts together
She calls it poetry
REPEAT CHORUS
Well the boy took what he could up and left
But she knew it was only for the best
Come home with the little one to an empty nest
No blood nor tears did she shed
Keeps a lock on her heart now
And she threw away the key
I'm out here digging in the dark now
Searching in a field of bright leaves
Just searching in a field of bright leaves
REPEAT CHORUS

Bottom of the Hill
03:00
|
|||
This valley’s where I’ve lived my whole life
Love God love my country love my wife
But sometimes it feels like I’m held against my will
In a little town at the bottom of the hill
Back in high school I was the king
And the all-American girl she was my queen
Kept her head in the books had looks that could kill
Prettiest gal at the bottom of the hill
I remember how she looked our wedding day
Walking down the aisle she took my breath away
And the moment was frozen and everything stood still
In a little chapel at the bottom of the hill
We had dreams of making it in the city
Shaking the dust off this town that makes you feel so filthy
But sometimes it feels like our future’s been revealed
And we’ll never leave this town at the bottom of the hill
Now I go to work come home everyday
Bills go up but they always dock my pay
Now I know that my fate has been signed and sealed
In the town that sits at the bottom of the hill
Last night as the sun was goin’ down
We watched the shadows creepin’ across town
And the darkness always stays and you know it always will
You can see it here from the bottom of the hill
Well this valley’s where I’ve lived my whole life
Love God love my country love my wife
And though we had our dreams they never were fulfilled
In our little town at the bottom of the hill

Capp's Drug Store
04:31
|
|||
Me and my sister used to ride bicycles down to Capp’s Drug Store
Dad’d give us a dollar and our eyes would sparkle as the bell rang above the front door
And they knew us by name cus we’d always get the same they knew what we came there for
Two bottles of pop and a pack of Topp’s just lookin’ for a chance to score
But we never had much luck
Always got a pack of duds
No homerun heroes just a couple of zeroes
In the town where I grew up
Me and Jimmy used drive his Chevy down to Capp’s Drug Store
Every other Friday we just got paid we was always lookin’ for more
And they knew us by name cus we’d always get the same they knew what we were there for
Two bottles of suds couple scratch offs just lookin’ for a chance to score
But we never had much luck
Always got a pair of duds
Just a couple of losers starin’ down a future
In the town where I grew up
And I guess time touches every town some move on and some get stuck
Til the day they put you in the ground in the town where you grew up
Now me and my kid walk to town like I did but there ain’t no Capp’s anymore
As I point out the places and remember the faces of those that were there before
All the names have changed and the people are strange just some cookie-cutter stores
But I buy him a pop from the corner shop though I wish I could give him more
And I’m always down on my luck
But I never cared too much
Just as long as my son gets the hell out of
The town where I grew up

Blood Summer
05:32
|
|||
Two kids laying on their backs in the tall green grass
Just before supper
Young lovers put wagers on spinning bottles of glass
Making eyes at each other
Guy down at the bar with his car filled up with gas asks
"Can I have another?"
And there's a hotcha girl in the parking lot shaking her ass
Leaving me to wonder
There was a love song come on the radio
She was the Juliet to his Romeo
Sky lay out like a white clouded canvas
He sang with a voice sound just like Elvis
For just one savage American summer
They swore to each other... blood brothers
Kid kickin' a can walking down the street just like he did
When he was younger
Boy and a girl take turns undressing after they first meet
Then crawl under the covers
And the night brings on the heat after the lightning streaks
And the sky crashes with thunder
And I'm looking at her the way she's looking back at me
But she don't know the spell I'm under
There was a love song come on the radio
She was the Juliet to his Romeo
Sky lay out like a white clouded canvas
He kissed her with a voice sound just like Elvis
For just one savage American summer
They swore to each other... blood brothers

Can't Kids
04:43
|
|||
We were just two kids doin’ what kids did we never had a clue
With guitars in our hands we started up bands we did what we had to do
Bought us a van traveled ‘cross the land we were always on the move
From bar to bar never got real far but we always played it cool
Now tell me what am I supposed to do
Now that I’m playin’ without you
In the house that was haunted another band was started and it was started right on cue
You and Jess made such a pretty mess on your hands you got a tattoo
And all your books were read and you made up beds for all the bands that were travelin’ thru
And you were just a kid so why can’t kids live why can’t we start over anew
Cus there’s some things you can’t undo
Now we’re just living without you
In South Carolina there ain’t nothing finer now I know this much is true
You gave it your best better than the rest I should be resting there with you
Cus there ain’t no growin’ in knowing where you’re goin’ would ya look what we grew into
Now that you’re gone we still hear your songs we know them all the way through
But we still don’t have a clue
Cus we’re lost without you
