We were just two teens in love and on the run Like an itchy trigger finger gotta shoot of a gun We hit the road with just the clothes on our backs Dunno where we're headed gotta get there fast So now we're driving through the middle of Tennessee Up to the Appalachian mountains ole' Kentucky And we're picking up speed as we cross county lines Through tobacco fields of North Carolina and we'll camp tonight under them Georgia pines Count all the stars with a bottle of wine And we'll sleep with our bodies intertwined Til I can't even tell what's yours and what's mine Oh dear darling don'tcha die on me When there's still so many sights left for us to see As we cross over the river Mississippi West into Kansas out of Missouri Oh baby you're looking so mighty pretty With your hair all a'blowin' in the passenger seat Ya just gotta keep remembering to breathe Don't close them eyes, don't follow them dreams And I promise you we're gonna be getting there soon We'll howl and we'll dance by the light of the moon We can map our path using the Texas stars Til we don't even know where in the hell we are Redemption lies under the hood of this car And I'm sorry it didn't get us very far Now my baby's dyin' in my arms And the last thing she feels will be the beat of my heart The one she used to make pound so hard's Now a mess in my chest being torn apart Promised her a life where we wouldn't be poor But where she's headed won't be pain no more They told us this is what your youth is for But we was such fools to think we'd win this war Lovers on the Run

State Line 05:27
On the south side of South Carolina Laying in my lover's arms I watch her eyes slowly closing And all I feel is the beating of her heart I'm riding hard that highway come the morning With a quick rush of blood to my head And the thoughts they surround me with no warning Like a needle weaving its thread And I don't know what the future has in store But I've done this drive a hundred times before Now some things look nice above the dice hanging from my rear view But every time I cross that state line All I'm seeing is you On the north side of North Carolina Being guided by a fiery north star Now if you feel the same way as I do Jessie Come a'rushin' into these arms Cus there's chumps burnin' down this highway I got a soft bed where you can lay By the time you arrive I'll have it made That'll be the day And you don't know what the future has in store But you've done this drive a hundred times before Now some things can hide right in plain sight Best to just take in the view But every time you cross that state line You're taking my heart with you On the south side of South Carolina In the splendor of the freshly cut grass My lover's got her arm across her forehead And I'm laying looking up on my back And there's questions in her eyes I can't answer And there's dreams in my head I can't speak But when the time comes we'll just surrender Just sit back and let it all be And we don't know what the future has in store But we've done this drive a hundred times before When you've been around the block and you finally stop There's a choice you just have to choose Cus some things you fight for and some things you die for We can't win but we don't have to lose Now every time I cross that state line

about

A: "Lovers On The Run":
Written in 2010 or so as a Kovacs & the Polar Bear song, inspired by "Teen Angel" or "Last Kiss" 1950's teenager death songs, and 1970's cinema like "Badlands", "Days of Heaven", and "Bonnie and Clyde". Also a loose prequel to "True Love Never Dies" from 2013 S/T Gold Light LP.

B: "State Line":
For Jess.
